I believe that NStar and NGrid are no longer using the ‘drive-by’ method but instead have created ‘fixed networks,’ that is one house for all intents and purposes becomes the truck for a neighborhood, collecting and repeating and relaying (cell relay) data for hundreds or thousands of homes. Essentially using AMI/’smart’ type mesh networks for AMR-type meters.
