Read about what RF smart meters are and why you should be concerned

I’m continuing in my effort to stop RF Smart Meters (that communicate via a RF Mesh Network) from being installed/utilized. In this effort, I have sent the letter below to the executive email address that I received from Doreen in Customer Service at NSTAR: email@example.com
Dear NStar Executive,
I am writing to inquire about the new meter that was installed on my house last week. I was assur
ed by Doreen in customer service that you do not have “smart meters”. She told me that your meters were from CENTRON. So I checked the spec sheet
of the CENTRON II and it IS a smart meter with transmitting capabilities. My particilar meter is this one from GE
which is also considered a smart meter. Are you intentionally lying to customers?
My deep hope is that NSTAR would never intentionally put their customers’ health at risk. But at the same time I understand the overpowering strength and capability of industry to limit the dissemination of information. The FCC has stated that it does not regulate for health, so even though the FCC has approved smart meter technology, it does not mean it is proven to be harmless to humans. It is harmful to humans, and is a physical violation of our privacy.
The health effects of exposure to Radio Frequency Radiation from transmitting ‘smart meters’ is documented. Constant pulsed transmission over the air waves can cause major long term health problems including cellular damage, the breakdown of DNA, ultimately effecting the function of all of our organs including the brain, making us more susceptible to cancer and other diseases. Unfortunately comprehensive tests have not been performed. Imagine getting in a car with your loved ones that had only been tested for crashes at 25 mph and having industry tell you that you’ll be safe in highway collision. That is what industry is doing to us now in reference to the safety of Radio Frequency Radiation. There have not been tests as to the safety of the amount of Radiation that will be produced by networks of smart meters constantly pulsing transmissions.
I am sensitive to EMF as I discovered in the body scan in the airport. When I stand next to my new meter I can FEEL the meter…similar to the body scan. I have had spells of dizziness & heart palpitations, stomach flutters since the new meter has been put in. It is said that in studies in Europe only 3-4% of people are this sensitive. But even if most people don’t register it as a “feeling” it does not mean that their cells are not being effected. So, whom should I trust, my body or Doreen from customer service? I’m really at a loss.
I do want to trust that NSTAR is looking out for the health of the customer but I need assurances and clarification:
- I would like to see NSTAR implement a company wide policy commitment to always err on the side of caution in regard to customer health.
- I request a copy of your official statement regarding smart meter transmission technology and its implication on personal privacy and human health.
- I request that NSTAR implement a moratorium on using this microwave pulse transmission technology.
This is so important to me that in addition to writing you, I have written all of my representatives, spoken with and written my neighbors as well as posted to all of my contacts, and posted my letters, including this one, on one of my blogs.
Dear executive, you are a human being just like me. If you or a family member were suffering as so many have because of exposure to RF pollution you would also sound the alarm. There continue to be more and more human health problems in the US and together we must make public health our priority over the interest of industry and profit.
There was a time when lead paint & asbestos, and unlimited smoking and x-rays were deemed safe. This is yet another opportunity to avoid adverse health risks that may take 15 – 20 years to accumulate. I certainly hope, for the health of your family and mine, that we heed the alarm and choose to be cautious. I’m doing my part to sound the alarm, and I need your help to insure that the long term health of humans is made a priority at NSTAR.
I look forward to hearing from you and I thank you for your thoughtful consideration of my deep and inconvenient concern.
- For information about health dangers I suggest reading about the biological impacts of low level microwave radiation

3/14/13 update: The NStar Executive responded quite generically to my letter posted below. It was a canned response (a cut and paste job) stating that the meter installed on my house was an Itron Centron C1SR which is not a smart meter. With the response was an attached spec sheet for the Itron Centron C1SR. Well, this executive response was misinformed because I do not have an Itron Centron C1SR on my house, I have a GE I-210+C Smart Grid enabled meter on my house. Two of them, actually. It is clear that all of the employees are not on the same page! Either by mistake or intention, NSTAR is not being entirely transparent. To attempt to get my questions answered I wrote a follow up email which can be found here.
If you also feel compelled to sound the alarm about this potential public health hazard, please take a few minutes today to make a phone call or send an email to your representatives &/or power company expressing your opposition to smart meter microwave Radio Frequency transmission (RF Mesh Automatic Metering Infrastructure). Suggest that they use power line submission (PLC) or another wired form of communication instead .
If you are also opposed to having your moment to moment power usage monitered, then you will have to include that you do not want them invading your privacy in this way. From what I hear, the power company does not have the right to put a transmitter & what social libertarians call surveillance equipment on your property. They are doing this without our consent and before obtaining proof of long term health safety.
My primary concern is for the public health. This is why I am making my voice heard.
